Ivanovo district was founded on January, 15, 1940. The district is situated in the south of the Brest region. Ivanovo is an administrative centre which is located in 132 km from Brest.

The area of the district is equal to 1,55 thousand km? (6% of the total territory of the region). The extension of the district from the west to the east is 26 km, from the north to the south – 60 km. It boders upon Bereza and Ivatsevichy district in the north, upon Pinsk district in the east, Drogichin district in the west, Volynsky region of the Ukraine in the south.

There are 15 rural committees and 102 rural settlements in the district. The population amounts to 49,5 thousand people (in 2003), including 33,1 thousand people in the countryside and 16,4 thousand of rural population. The district takes third place according to the destiny of population per km? (33  people). Total sum of pensioners is 15,8 thousand people. The representatives of 31 nationalities live in the district: Belarusian – 94.6%, Ukrainian – 2,8%, Russian – 2,3%, other nationalities – 0,3%.

29% of the territory is occupied mainly with coniferous forest and birchwood. The Jaselda, the Nesluha, the Samorovka, the Pina, the Pilipovka and the Dneprobug channel flow in the district. There are 11 lakes: the Okuninskoe, the Zavyshanskoe, the Beloe, the Peschanoe, the Motolskoe, etc. There is a gamereserve Zavyshanskij on the territory of Brodnitskij rural executive committee. Sanatorium "Alesja" which is situated 25 km from the town on the bank of the Zavyshanskoe lake has good reputation.

The district is crossed by the railway Brest-Luninets and the highway Brest-Gomel.

The newspaper "Chyrvonaja zvjazda" is published here and district radio works.

There are 95 registered archaeological, architectural and historical monuments in the district.

They are:

  • Settlements of late Stone Age Neolit and Bronze era in Motol, Opol, Tyshkovichi villages.
  • Architectural monuments of XYIII century:
    • Svjato-Nikolaevskaja church in Drugilovichi village.
    • Perechistenskaja church in Ljaskovichi  village.
    • Petropavlovskaja church in Mohro village.
    • Paraskevy Pjatnitsy church in Opol village.
    • Alexandr Nevski church in Strelno village.
  • Architectural monuments of ХIY-ХХ centuries:
    • Krestovozdvijenskaja churches in Brodnitsa and Vorotsevichy villages.
    • Voznesenija church in Ljahovichi village;
    • Molodovo Preobragenskaja church in Motol village.
    • Svjato-Troitskaja church in Dostoevo village.
    • Roman-Catholic church in Ivanovo town, etc.

83 monuments and obelisks have been erected in the memory of Great Patriotic War and post-war years victims on the territory of the district. Long since believers of three religions: members of the Orthodox Church, Roman-Catholic church and Protestant religion - have been living here in a friendly atmosphere and good-neighbourliness.

The district is specialized in milk and meat production, grain-crops cultivation, white beet, potatoes, vegetables and leguminous plants growing. In 1997 the district was acknowledged to be the winner of republican and regional competitions on providing with the highest production of grain-crops and leguminous plants counting on 1 mark-hectare. That year the district was invested with a service medal with brilliant surface called "Zolotoj kolos" for the winning in the republical competitions "Harvest - 97", wich was carried out by the newspaper "Belorussian niva". The district was the first in the republic in 2001 and 2002 year.
